Symone

Children and Families

Symone came to Eagle Ranch in the summer of 2018 with a big personality, positive outlook and million-dollar smile. Her spunk and charm caught most people off guard. Back home in school, Symone was popular and athletic. She lived at home with her parents and sister. So, what brought Symone to Eagle Ranch?

Angry outbursts, her family beginning to go through a divorce, and a fight in school led Symone’s parents to make the difficult decision of seeking outside help – which led them to Eagle Ranch.

“When I heard about Eagle Ranch, I didn’t want to go. I had such a big future. I’m a track star and I play softball and I’m popular in school. I knew I would lose popularity—it was like a big nightmare,” said Symone. “I didn’t really think I had problems.”

It took a while for Symone to adjust to her new life at Eagle Ranch. For the first 6 months she was here, Symone convinced herself she would be going home sooner rather than later.

“My first couple months were really hard. I had to adjust. I would isolate myself because in my head I thought I was leaving at the end of the summer,” said Symone.

Once Symone accepted that she had to work on her anger issues, she opened up to the program and the hard work that needed to be done in order for her and her family to grow.

“I talk to my counselor as much as I can on ways I can improve. I am still working on learning how to express my feelings,” said Symone. “It’s hard for me to do that sometimes, but I get better every and every day. I do want to go home, so I want to get better. I accept the help Eagle Ranch offers because when I do go home, I want to be a better version of myself. I want my mom to notice my changes and I don’t want to be the same person I was when I came to Eagle Ranch.”

More recently, Symone has experienced growth in learning to control her emotions, improve her behavior and excel academically. For her family, they have learned to discuss their issues in a calm way instead of breaking out into an argument.

Symone’s family continues on their journey in the Eagle Ranch program.
