Let’s be honest - Perfect parenting is a myth.
Being a parent is a hard process and often full of mistakes. When raising your children, it’s easy to become irritated, impatient, and emotional. We can often feel like we did not handle a situation the way we would have liked, or perhaps we missed an opportunity to lead in the right way.
Thankfully, God can use these parenting challenges to grow us in ways we never could have imagined. Growth happens as we allow God to develop in us a humble, teachable mindset. With this type of mindset, we can take ownership of when we mess up as parents instead of living in denial or making excuses.
With parenting, the goal is never perfection. Instead, it is a resilient attitude that when things get tough, we decide, “I am going to learn from this and not give up.” This takes the pressure off us to be perfect parents.
So, relax, take a deep breath ... even the parents of Jesus lost him for a couple of days. By having a humble and teachable mindset, we can allow God to work through us and impact not only our own lives, but the lives of our children as well.
If you make a mistake with your children today—don’t worry—they’ll give you plenty of practice to do better tomorrow.
