A Chance at Childhood

A Chance at Childhood

Cory’s story shows that the impact of Eagle Ranch goes well beyond the time that a child spends here. We hope that Cory’s story encourages you, and that through it you can encourage someone else.

The Gravel Road

It wasn’t uncommon for Cory to get in trouble in school. Fights, poor grades and truancy were becoming the norm for the 12-year-old. From the outside looking in, Cory looked like bad news.

Rules and Roller Coasters

His eyes were already open before the alarm went off. Cory sat up in his bed in his new room at the Ranch, sniffing something in the air that was unfamiliar. Was that bacon? Eggs and pancakes? It couldn’t be.

Chicken Nuggets & A Vanilla Shake

“I don’t care how many times you tell me, I’m not going to wash the dishes!” Cory yelled, storming out of the front door, slamming it as he stomped. “I am so sick of them telling me what to do,” Cory thought.

Stories That Stick

The last few years held many fond memories for Cory. He and his brother Roley were growing closer. Even their youngest brother, Cody, had come to the Ranch. It wasn’t perfect, though.

Light in the Dark

Grief is hard, but Cory never realized just how hard until he lost his father. Just weeks earlier, Cory received the news: his father had tragically passed away. What would he do without his father?

Childhood Restored

Sunlight crept through the curtains to his bed. Cory’s eyes shot open—he didn’t need anyone telling him to get out of bed that Saturday morning. Scurrying out from under the covers, Cory began to put on his clothes for the day.

Homecoming

As he neared the age of 18, Cory knew the time had come to leave Eagle Ranch. However, in the months following his departure, grief and pain over the loss of his father became increasingly difficult for Cory to manage.

Coming Full Circle

It was surreal—driving down that same road he had traveled down so many years before. But this time, Cory wasn’t the passenger. It was paved, now, that once gravel road. It was smooth, and obviously fairly new.

Love, Marriage & Houseparenting

Cory sat on his couch in his living room, watching his wife, Sarah, as she read a book next to him under the dim lamp light. It was getting late. Their newborn daughter, Annabelle, was fast asleep in the next room.

Counseling Through CrossFit

They had been at it for weeks. Running, lunges, burpees, and sit-ups in all combinations came together in this thing called CrossFit. A new summer program at the Ranch meant new challenges for the boys and girls, but with great reward.
