Joan Whitcomb Girls Center Officially Open

The return of children to campus after Spring Break was celebrated by an official grand opening party of the Joan Whitcomb Girls Center. This facility plays host to a variety of equipment and space for our girls to grow and develop physically. Check out the video by clicking above.

Girls at Eagle Ranch struggle with various issues, some of which include poor self-image, depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Depressive episodes in teens can contribute to poor grades, poor interpersonal relationships, and worse physical health. *1

To combat these scenarios, the idea for the Joan Whitcomb Girls Center was born. Studies show that exercise can help in the following ways:

  • Aerobic exercise can boost your mood. Your body makes certain chemicals, called endorphins, during and after your workout. Endorphins relieve stress and make you feel calmer. *2
  • Physical activity may help with depression and anxiety symptoms. Studies show that regular aerobic exercise boosts your mood and lowers anxiety and depression. *2
  • Usually within five minutes after moderate exercise you get a mood-enhancement effect. *3

While at Eagle Ranch, our girls will participate in activities such as group fitness, yoga, cross training, weight lifting, and aerobic exercise. Whether it be through P.E. class or in a group activity led by Houseparents or a Program Assistant, the Joan Whitcomb Girls Center will be a major factor contributing to the overall health and wellness of our girls, serving as a supporting element as they heal from the crisis in their lives.
