The Equine Center

The Eagala Model

The Eagala Model is a unique, ground-based approach where the child and horse are free to interact naturally inside an arena. Oversight is provided by a licensed counselor and our Equine Program Manager, both of whom serve as facilitators during the session.

“We have the child in that arena in hopes they will create a story through the horses,” says Kate Baxter, Equine Program Manager. “Horses are extremely sensitive creatures; they pick easily on the feelings and emotions of a human being. As the horses respond, our goal is to ask questions that get the child to think about the space they’re in, the horse’s reactions, their own feelings, and what is going on.”
